Cultural Heritage Partners welcomes attorney Halie Geller to the team.  Halie’s practice focuses on legal issues of concern to museums, galleries, auction houses, and cultural institutions.  As founding attorney in our New York office, she works with clients throughout the metropolitan region and the state to resolve disputes, manage risk, and improve business practices.

“We are pleased to expand our practice to serve clients in New York, the home of so many of the world’s finest cultural institutions and global hub of the international art market,” explained Marion Werkheiser. “Halie’s experience in international trade and customs law as well as her work representing Fortune 500 clients before numerous federal agencies offer new dimensions to the services we can provide our clients.”

Halie’s recent experience includes representing art and antiques dealers, galleries, major fashion labels, and luxury goods manufacturers before agencies including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, and the Federal Trade Commission.  She has developed a deep understanding of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service regulations and requirements, the U.S. Endangered Species Act, the Convention for Trade in Endangered Species, and associated state wildlife laws and regulations related to the import, export, and sale of goods. She also has a particular interest in international trade law and policy related to the trade in antiquities and the protection of underwater cultural heritage.

Halie has performed due diligence for mergers and acquisitions with respect to international trade and customs issues and has represented clients in connection with trade sanction programs and export controls administered by the U.S. Department of State and the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security.  With a firm command of international trade laws and regulations, Halie assists clients with regulatory compliance and structuring of transactions to maximize value.

Halie earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Brandeis University and her Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law, where she received the American Bar Association Award for Excellence in the Study of Intellectual Property and a CALI Award for Excellence in Legal Writing.  She previously practiced with Grunfield, Desiderio, Lebowitz, Silverman & Klestadt and is admitted to the bar in New York.
