CHP Negotiates Groundbreaking Good Neighbor Agreement to Protect Nantucket National Historic Landmark and Advance Offshore Wind

Cultural Heritage Partners, PLLC represented the Town of Nantucket in its negotiations with Vineyard Wind to achieve design changes that will minimize the visual impacts of the first utility-scale offshore wind project in the U.S. on the Nantucket National Historic Landmark. The resulting Good Neighbor Agreement between the Town and the Company also establishes the Nantucket Offshore Wind Community Fund, to which Vineyard Wind plans to contribute $16 million over the next 8-10 years. The Fund will support local initiatives to combat the effects of global climate change, enhance coastal resiliency, and protect, restore, and preserve Nantucket’s cultural and historic resources. The Fund, which will be administered by the Community Foundation for Nantucket, will accept contributions from other wind developers and will be a model for balancing historic preservation values and energy development needs.
